325 Kms., approx. 12 hrs by road from Port Blair, North Andaman Island covers main city as Diglipur provides a rare experience for ecofriendly tourists. It is famous for its oranges, rice and marine life. Saddle Peak the highest point in the islands is nearby. Kalpong, the only river of Andaman flows here. The only Hydro-electric project of the islands is on this river. One can feel the innocent beauty of village life everywhere in Diglipur.

Diglipur:

The fascinating town of Diglipur is the largest town in the North Andaman Islands and yet, often goes unnoticed because of its distance from other popular tourist attractions (Havelock and Port Blair). But perhaps, it is this very distance that makes it such a different and adventurous place!

With its rich flora and fauna, natural parks and lively marine life, there are so many options to actively spend your holidays here. From climbing the highest peak in the Gulf of Bengal to exploring a network of underground caves, observing an active mud volcano or witnessing turtle nesting and hatching embraced by crystal clear waters, Diglipur is a wonder for all.

Ross & Smith Island:

A pair of beautiful islands connected by a 50-metre-long sand bar. A half-hour boat ride (permitted entry only) from Aerial Bay Jetty takes you to the pristine sands of Ross and Smith Islands. A walk on the sandbar on a Full moon night is an ecstasy ride of lifetime. The pair of islands is home to untamed wide virgin beaches, offering shallow swimming area on one side and best dive and snorkeling sites on the other.

Saddle Peak:

Saddle peak is the highest point of Andaman and Nicobar Islands with height of 732 meters. This mountain is totally covered with evergreen rain forest up to the top of peak. Many travelers who love to trek on mountains reach here to look a bird’s eye view of North Andamans. Kalpong is the only river of the Islands which flows through Saddle Peek which generate a hydroelectric project.

You need permission from forestry department office of Diglipur to climbing on the peek. It can be obtained by paying 250 Rupees. Those who want to go for trekking to Saddle Peak can collect trekking equipments on hire from Turtle Nest Resort and start trekking from Kalipur starting point.

Kalipur Beach:

Kalipur beach is located 18 km away from Diglipur, provides a mixture of sand and rock shores with fishing village nearby.

Diglipur National Park:

Diglipur National Park is a dense tropical forest bordered by Lamba Bay Beach. It offers trekking opportunities in Jungle to find out many rare species of trees. You have to just take permission from Forest Department to visit here.

Ram Nagar Beach:

Ram Nagar Beach is another common beach destination from Diglipur. It is also a home and nesting ground for the Olive Ridley Turtles.

Mud Volcano:

It has been identified at the northern point of Diglipur Island. It is a restricted area.

Some other neighbouring attractions:

Besides of these you will found some more attractive spots around Diglipur like the Craggy Island located close to Pristine Resort, Raman caves, Kalighat Creek, Lamba Bay Beach and many more spots in Mayabundar (neighboring Divsion).

Water Sports in Andaman Islands

Andaman and Nicobar is the best place of all water sports activity in India if you are on a visit to this Island then you should do all the water sports activity like scuba diving, snorkeling, sea walk etc. Andaman water sports complex offers a wide variety of water facilities: water skiing, water scooters, parasailing, kayak and yes there is a boating from this complex to Ross Island which is really a wonderful experience. There is also a sea water swimming pool. This island offers some of the most amazing and unforgettable water sports activity. Facilities of the water sports activity are available in port Blair and some of the other island. Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex provides adventurous and safe water sports activities. The safe water component has paddle boats, banana rides, water cycles etc.

Water sports facility is also available in Corbyn’s cove beach, Port Blair and Radhanagar Beach in Havelock Island. Various sports activity like sea walk, snorkeling, are available in the north bay beach, it is to the north of Port Blair. At Havelock, the water lovers may also take a glass bottom boat ride to see corals, colorful fishes, and marine life.
