Middle Andaman Island

For most travellers, Middle Andaman is a gruelling rite of passage to be endured en route to or from the north. The sinuous Andaman Trunk Road, hemmed in by walls of towering forest, winds through kilometres of jungle, and crosses the strait that separates the island from its neighbour, Baratang, by means of a rusting flat-bottomed ferry. The island’s frontier feeling is heightened by the knowledge that the impenetrable forests west of the ATR comprise the Jarawa Tribal Reserve.

Barathang Island:

Inaccessible to many travellers and many people of the Andaman Islands, Baratang once used to be one of most feared destination. Attacks by the native Jarawa Tribes were common allowing nobody to ponder around there place. The Jarawa Tribe Reserve, today stands as a reserve for the Jarawa Tribes members. Efforts were made by the Government to help the native tribes and to gain trust.

The Baratang island trip brings forward the tropical side of the Andaman islands. Dense Forest, Tribes, Mangroves, Dongi rides, beaches, birds , caves and trekking. Well, Baratang has all of these to offer. Avail a trip to this island and become a part of the tropical side of the Andaman Islands.

Depending upon your budget and convenience you can decide which mode of transport to choose while availing Baratang island tour. Please note that for Shared Bus tour you will have to report around 3 AM in the morning at designated areas in Port Blair. Usually the pickup point for the bus is at Goalghar, Phoenix Bay, Phoenix Bay Jetty, Gandhi Status, Aberdeen Bazaar Clock Tower, Dairy Farm, Bhatu Basti and Sippighat.

Rangat

Rangat is a 1070 sq. km. large island in Middle Andaman with pristine beaches, waterfalls, and interesting islands. The population is primarily made up of people from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Fisheries and cultivation are the two primary occupations of people in this island. Entry into Rangat is by Bus from Port Blair and by ferries from Havelock, Neil and Long Island. Therefore, tourists have to enter Andamans through Port Blair and travel to Rangat by road or sea.

Morning bus services are available between Port Blair and Rangat. The travel time is about 6-7 hours. Road to Rangat from Port Blair passes through Jarawa reserves. The bus passes through the Andaman Grand Trunc road to reach Rangat. Sea and shipping services are available for 4-5 days in a week. The travel time is about 4-5 hours.

Cutbert Bay Beach

is another sandy beach on the way to Cutbert Bay. This beach is ideal for swimming, sun bathing and relaxation..

Amkunj Bay beach

offer a good experience of cruising through the evergreen mangrove fringed creek, with exotic flora and fauna. These are ideal for nature lovers, bird watchers, research / education oriented tourists.

Moorys Dare

is a rocky mountainous terrain opposite to Amkunj Bay, which will perfectly suit the requirements of adventure tourists interested in trekking. The trekking spot is fantabulous..

Panchavati Hills

have a beautiful, gentle waterfall. The agricultural farm en-route housing a rich bank of vegetation is of interest to botany enthusiasts.

Long Island

off the southeast coast of Middle Andaman has a small village and several sandy beaches perfect for camping. Long Island is well connected via Govt boat with Havelock Island and Rangat Island. This island has the famous ‘Lalaji Bay’ beach, which is rated as truly world class. Long Island is a perfect destination for honeymoon and adventurous travellers. Mayabunder

Mayabunder is situated in the Northern part of Middle Andaman at a distance of 242 km by road and 130 kms by sea from Port Blair. Here, you may find people from Burma and East Pakistan settlements. For people trying to explore more about Andaman Islands and looking forward to avoid crowd during peak season this is a popular destination. You might not be able to find the best resorts as in Havelock or Port Blair, however, the virgin beaches and the mangrove rides would be a fantastic experience.

Karmatang Beach

a wonderful beach located at a distance of 12 km/7.5 m from Mayabunder. This beach, with crystal clear water and rich coral reserve is a turtle nesting ground and also has mangrove line creeks for nature lovers. If one is visiting during the December – February season, this very interesting scene could be witnessed live.

Various Creeks and Austin Creek

offer a good experience of cruising through the evergreen mangrove fringed creek, with exotic flora and fauna. These are ideal for nature lovers, bird watchers, research / education oriented tourists.

Ray Hill

at a distance of 20 minutes boat ride from Mayabunder jetty, houses an Eco Village developed and maintained by ANIFPDCL. The facilities available include eco guesthouses, wilderness trail, and elephant safari, rock climbing for children, angling, and small library. An Ideal place for family tourists.

Austin X island

at a distance of 25 minutes boat ride from Mayabunder jetty, has a palm fringed little beach and a shallow sea with mangrove belt. This is an ideal spot for picnic and trekking. Spotted deer coming to water holes is also a common sight.

Forest Museum

located in DFO office (close to Mayabunder jetty), houses a rare collection of coral life and fauna. It also has an Information Centre to inform visitors of the collections in the museum. Ideal for research / education oriented tourists.
